The New York Jets fell to the Denver Broncos in London on Sunday by a score of 13-11, dropping their record on the season to 0-6, making them the only winless team in the National Football League.
Worse than the result, however, was the performance itself, as the Jets looked like a pop warner team on offense, as they were the first offense since 2021 to not have a single explosive play in the game.
A huge part of the Jets’ problems on offense stem from quarterback Justin Fields, who simply refuses to throw the ball downfield. Against the Broncos, Fields completed 9 of 17 passes for just 45 yards.
With the latest loss, further pressure has been heaped on rookie head coach Aaron Glenn, who is looking increasingly like he could be fired after the season. Glenn certainly doesn’t seem to be helping his case, either, by continuing to trot Fields out there despite his ineffectiveness.
“Several within the locker room have told SNY, at varying points beginning in training camp, they believe Taylor is their best quarterback. Because Fields is undeniably a better athlete and can do much more as a runner, the sentiment was that would lead to wins. They could accomplish more because Fields could (conceivably) do more,” reported Connor Hughes of SNY.
“But the Jets are not winning. They’re the only team in the NFL who hasn’t this year. Their offense has been a disaster in large part because of Fields’ inability to traditionally play the position. The Jets are the first team to start 0-6 while averaging less than 150 net yards passing per game (144.2) since David Carr and the Texans did it in 2005 (87.2). The Broncos defense held the Jets to zero explosive plays, the first time an offense has gone without an explosive play in a game since Week 11, 2021 (Texans vs. Titans).”
According to Hughes, “Glenn cannot continue to blindly trust Fields if a growing portion of the locker room doesn’t believe he gives them the best chance to win.”
There are truths in the NFL. Among them: You can’t fool players. They put their trust in their coaches putting them in the best position to win. A death knell: When they question if that’s happening.

In Tyrod Taylor’s lone start of the season in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Bucs, the Jets were as competitive as they’ve been all season, with Taylor completing 26 of 36 passes for 197 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Glenn and the New York Jets will be looking to get their first win of the season on Sunday, October 19 when they host the 3-3 Carolina Panthers.
