A look back at the history between the Saints and Rams

It’s Week 9 and the New Orleans Saints (1-7) find themselves on the road to face the Los Angeles Rams (5-2) at SoFi Stadium on Sunday.

It all started for these two teams back on September 17, 1967, which saw the Rams defeat the Saints 27-13 in Tulane Stadium.

Sunday will be the 80th time that these two franchises have faced one another, which includes 2 post season matchups (2000 and 2019) and as we all know, these two have a very notorious playoff history.

The 2000 NFC Wild Card Playoff game against the Rams became known as the “Hakim dropped the ball” game which led to a Saints 31-28 win, the franchise’s first playoff victory and of course, the now infamous 2019 NFCCG game which saw Rams CB Nickell Robey-Coleman commit a crystal-clear act of pass interference against Saints WR Tommy Lee Lewis. The no-call became one of the most controversial and egregious officiating decisions in NFL history, costing the Saints a 2nd trip to the Superbowl.

Los Angeles currently leads the series 45-35, with the Saints losing 4 of their last 5 matchups. The Rams have scored 1837 points to the Saints 1678.

These two teams last played one another on December 1, 2024, in the Caesars Superdome, which saw Los Angeles come away with a 21-14 victory over New Orleans.

Kickoff is at 3:05 pm CT and the game will be broadcast on FOX with Kenny Albert, (play-by-play), Jonathan Vilma, (color analyst) and Megan Olivi (sideline)
