It’s Week 2 and the New Orleans Saints find themselves at home again this week to face the San Francisco 49ers.
There is a lot of history between these two teams who were former division rivals as members of the NFC West from 1970-2001. They first played one another way back on October 22, 1967, which saw the 49ers defeat the Saints 27-13 at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco, CA
Sunday will be the 78th time that these two franchises have faced one another in the regular season, with San Francisco winning the total series 50-27-2. Their only post season matchup took place on January 14, 2012, which saw the 49ers defeat the Saints 36-32 in the divisional round of the playoffs. It’s a game that fans still talk about today as the one that got away as many believed that year’s Saints team was even better than the 2009 roster and could have won a 2nd Super Bowl Championship had it not been for a last-minute touchdown by Niners TE Vernon Davis.
These two last played one another at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on November 27, 2022, which saw the 49ers defeat the Saints 13-10.
Kickoff is at 12 pm and the game will be broadcast on FOX with Kevin Kugler (play-by-play), Daryl Johnston (color analyst) and Allison Williams (sideline)
