An hour-long documentary will focus on the former QB’s fall from grace.

Once a beloved NFL quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings legend Brett Favre is no stranger to having his name in the news, whether for good or for controversy. As of late, it’s been the latter, and there’s an incoming Netflix documentary which talks all about it.

In 2021, Netflix debuted a series of documentary films titled Untold, which dives into the details of both well-known and lesser-known sports stories. Previous subjects include the NBA’s infamous “Malice at the Palace”, former Notre Dame football player Manti Te’o, the Tim Tebow-era Florida Gators, and the death of former QB Steve McNair, among others. On May 6th, the series will drop its first of three more weekly installments. The Fall of Favre will air on May 20th.

The documentary will no doubt discuss the high points of Favre’s career with the Packers, like his multiple MVP awards, and his Super Bowl XXXI win. However, there is a deeper story to tell when it comes to Brett Favre, one which entails accusations of sexual harassment and alleged knowledge of the diversion of Mississippi welfare funds towards a volleyball facility. From director Rebecca Gitlitz, “It was made with the intention of laying out patterns of behaviors, told from the people who lived with the consequences of Favre’s actions, to ask audiences to consider if success should be a shield for harmful behavior.”

Favre reportedly declined requests for interviews from the filmmakers, so we will not be hearing his side of the story. He did testify in September in front of Congress, denying any knowledge of wrongdoing and claiming this is all a ploy to tarnish his reputation. Whether that’s true or not is a hot topic of discussion, and you can bet your behind that I will be seated for this documentary.
