How can the Rams set themselves up to play in Super Bowl 60?

The Los Angeles Rams were once again just yards away from pulling off a big upset in the NFC playoffs in 2024. Against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Rams came 14-yards away and the closest to knocking off the eventual Super Bowl champions.

Heading into the 2025 season, the Rams are once again set up to compete. In fact, they may be set up to make a strong push to represent the NFC in Super Bowl 60. A lot needs to get figured out between now and then and certain steps need to be taken. Here’s my 10-step plan for the Rams to reach the Super Bowl.

1. Figure out what timeline you want to be in for 2025

The Rams need to figure out what timeline they want to be in for 2025. I’ve written about it several times at this point, but when the Rams reset their salary cap in 2023, it was with this season in mind. The roster and pillars may look different than what they anticipated, but this roster is set up right now to push some chips into the middle of the table and make a push for a Super Bowl title.

However, there is the alternate timeline as well. This Rams team has a young core and it’s very possible that the front office wants to go all-in on that group of players. Unfortunately, a 37-year old quarterback doesn’t fit a multi-year build that can grow with those younger players. When the Rams traded for Matthew Stafford, it was because they had a roster that was set up to win and were being held back in a sense by a younger quarterback. The opposite may be happening now where a young roster is holding back an older quarterback.

This doesn’t mean that the Rams can’t win a Super Bowl with Stafford and a younger roster core paired together. At the same time, a more experienced roster with Stafford is obviously the best case scenario. The Rams are at a crossroads and need to decide what direction they want to take. It’s hard to fault them either way.

2. Extend Matthew Stafford

At the end of the day, the best way for the Rams to compete for a Super Bowl is with Matthew Stafford as the quarterback taking snaps under center. When Stafford is at his best, he’s still a top-5 quarterback in the NFL. That is his upside. Stafford gives the Rams the ability to beat a team like the Buffalo Bills last year and the Minnesota Vikings both in the regular season and playoffs. Outside of a fumble, he played well against the Philadelphia Eagles and gave the Rams a chance to win at the end. If the Rams can give Stafford protection, they can be the scary offense that they were in 2021.

This isn’t to say that the Rams should hand Stafford a blank check. Still,...
