The Buffalo Bills, like most NFL teams, have experienced a great deal of roster turnover in the last few years. Unlike most NFL clubs, however, the Bills have had stability at the head coaching position. Sean McDermott has held that post since the 2017 NFL season began. With new regimes come new rosters, and McDermott has teamed with general manager to reshape the Buffalo roster in their tenure.
Every player who was with the Bills in 2016 is no longer with the club… with the exception of one. That’s not necessarily a surprise, as most teams don’t currently roster a player who was on that same team in 2016. However, the Bills have managed to have stability at this unsung position throughout the course of the last decade.
In today’s edition of “90 players in 90 days,” we discuss Buffalo’s long snapper.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Name: Reid Ferguson
Number: 69
Position: LS
Height/Weight: 6’2”, 235 pounds
Age: 31 (32 on 3/24/2026
Experience/Draft: 9; signed with Buffalo following the 2016 NFL Draft
College: LSU
Acquired: UDFA signing
Financial situation (per Spotrac): Ferguson signed a four-year contract worth $6.5 million this offseason. He carries a cap hit of $1,557,500 for the year. If he were to be released Buffalo would carry a dead-cap charge of $2.365 million, which is the total of the guarantees on the contract. So, this isn’t going to be a season where Ferguson is released on cut day and waits to be re-signed in the parking lot.
2024 Recap: Ferguson has never missed a game in his NFL career, as he played in all 17 of Buffalo’s contests in the regular season and all three playoff games, as well. He had two special teams tackles in the regular season. It’s hard to measure a long-snapper’s performance by tackles, though, as his primary job is to put the ball exactly where it needs to be on field goals, extra points, and punts. Ferguson did that to near perfection last season, just as he has for his entire career.
Positional outlook: Ferguson is the only long snapper on the roster.
2025 Offseason: Ferguson is healthy, and he participated in the Bills’ preseason opener against the New York Giants.
2025 Season outlook: Barring injury, Ferguson will once again be the team’s long snapper. He’s the only player left from the Rex Ryan-era Bills, and with good reason. Ferguson continues to be a top performer at his craft, and his work has even contributed to long snappers being recognized as an official position in this year’s Madden video game for the first time in the history of the franchise. Ferguson’s No. 69 isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
