The Buffalo Bills appeared to be set at kicker entering the 2025 season. They only had one on the roster as training camp began, so there was no reason to think otherwise. However, once the man presumed to be their kicker began missing practice due to soreness in a rather sensitive area, that necessitated a move.

In today’s installment of “90 players in 90 days,” we discuss the other man who is trying to be the Bills’ kicker in 2025.

Name: Caden Davis
Number: 36
Position: K
Height/Weight: 6’1”, 208 pounds
Age: 24 (25 on 2/27/2026)
Experience/Draft: R; signed with New York Jets following the 2025 NFL Draft
College: Ole Miss
Acquired: Signed with Buffalo on 8/8/2025

Financial situation (per Spotrac): Davis signed a one-year contract, as reported by the team. However, terms of that deal are not yet disclosed. The contract is likely for the league minimum with no guaranteed money.

2024 Recap: Caden Davis continued his strong collegiate performance, as he made his fourth field goal of longer than 50 yards to tie an Ole Miss record. He was 24-of-29 on field goal attempts and 57-of-59 on extra-point tries. He led the SEC in made field goals as well as total points scored (129).

He was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award, given annually to the nation’s best kicker, and he was also invited to the Senior Bowl. After going undrafted, the Jets signed him on May 9. He remained with the team until July 29, which was when he was waived. The Jets had guaranteed him $35,000 on the UDFA deal he signed with them.

Positional outlook: Davis is the only healthy kicker on Buffalo’s current roster. Tyler Bass is dealing with pelvic-area soreness. Running back Ray Davis is listed as the second-team kicker.

2025 Offseason: Davis is healthy and he was kicking with the Jets in offseason work. He was Buffalo’s kicker in the preseason opener against the New York Giants. Aside from one extra point that running back Ray Davis handled, Caden Davis handled the rest of the kicking duties. He hit an extra point and a 24-yard field goal in his two tries. He handled kickoff duties effectively, as well.

2025 Season outlook: Unless this pelvic-area soreness is indicative of a larger issue, Bass is pretty locked in as the Bills’ kicker this season. He bounced back last season after a subpar 2023, and his contract is such that he stands to count less against Buffalo’s cap if he’s on the roster ($4,670,000) than if he’s off of it ($5,970,000 dead-cap charge if he’s released). That all points to Bass being the guy when the real games start in September.

However, there is always a “what-if.” What if Davis has a perfect preseason? What if Bass returns at some point this summer and struggles? Davis was an outstanding college kicker, and if that success he had in the SEC can translate to the NFL, he could be a surprise keeper at the...
