Here are five intriguing prop bets for Super Bowl LIX:
The Chiefs don’t typically start as the front runners in the Super Bowls they’ve played, but the Eagles could give them the opportunity.
In the regular season, the Philadelphia offense ranked near the bottom of the league in many first-quarter statistical categories. Among the four quarters, the Eagles’ lowest marks in touchdowns, first downs, completion percentage, yards per pass attempt and passer rating are in the first.
The initial drive of the AFC Championship showed the Chiefs’ offense is in full gear — and can be from right out of the gate. I see head coach Andy Reid’s opening script manufacturing points — and the Chiefs’ defense starting strong in their effort to keep Eagles’ running back Saquon Barkley quiet.
During the 2024 regular season, the Chiefs ranked third in fourth-down conversion rate (70.6%) and the Eagles ranked fourth (70.4%). Philadelphia attempted 27 fourth downs over the 17-game schedule, the tenth-most in the NFL — and 10 more attempts than Kansas City.
Given the effectiveness of quarterback Jalen Hurts on a sneak, the Eagles are clearly built to succeed in short-yardage situations. Head coach Nick Sirianni also tends to be aggressive — especially in a game where he knows he cannot waste possessions. Even outside of the “Tush Push,” Philadelphia has an offense built to win on a short downs.
For the Chiefs, it should be easy to trust Mahomes on any fourth-and-short near (or beyond) midfield. The team converted 13 of 16 fourth downs three or fewer yards; Mahomes converted four times himself — twice with his legs. Running back Kareem Hunt has converted all six times he has touched the ball on fourth down.
Kansas City will be focused on corralling Barkley and the Philadelphia running game. Through the postseason, the Eagles are averaging 186.6 rushing yards per game. The Chiefs are allowing 148 rushing yards per game.
The Eagles’ rushing totals are boosted by Barkley’s big-play ability. He has accumulated 200 of his 442 playoff rushing yards on three long touchdown carries.
It takes a disciplined, complete unit to consistently prevent the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year from getting to the third level — and that’s exactly what the Chiefs have. In the regular season, Kansas City [allowed the fifth-fewest runs of 10 or more...
