It’s Seattle Seahawks football under Friday night lights, but also gloomy Seattle skies for their preseason home finale against the Kansas City Chiefs. While the Seahawks intend to play starters a little bit in this one, the Chiefs aren’t intending to do the same, which takes some of the sting out of this “dress rehearsal” exhibition. It’s still an opportunity for home fans to get a little glimpse of their star players in action before Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers.
It’s time to make some predictions, but let’s first look at last week’s predictions, which were not great! Good thing it’s preseason and therefore doesn’t count.
Bold prediction: There will be some boos for Geno Smith
Didn’t hear or see any reports of boos for Geno, but there were fingers sent from Geno to one notorious shit-stirring fan.
Seahawks offense prediction: Jalen Milroe will score at least one rushing touchdown
Not yet. I thought he had a chance in the fourth quarter, only for Jacardia Wright to get the carry and touchdown.
Seahawks defense prediction: Multiple turnovers forced
Booyah! Two interceptions off of Aidan O’Connell will do the trick.
Raiders prediction: Pete Carroll will waste a challenge
He didn’t even use a challenge! What is this nonsense? And now Pete is doing joint practices? New team, new Pete?
Game prediction: Seahawks win, but who cares?
They didn’t win, they didn’t lose, but I found myself caring that this game ended in a tie.
Go figure that this week started with a heatwave and ends with a soggy Friday, with rain forecast effectively all day. It’ll also be a fairly windy evening, so the potential for extremely sloppy football should be high. Ball security will likely be an issue and I think we’re in for a turnover-filled night, which includes both sides coughing it up at least twice. Muffed punts, botched handoffs, and good ol’ fashioned “lost the ball while running with it” are all on the table.
The starters should get at least one series, which was enough for last year’s offense to score a touchdown against the Cleveland Browns. Of course, they would have zero opening drive TDs in the regular season. I’m not going to go all-out for a touchdown drive on this occasion, but for however long Sam Darnold is in the game, the Seahawks will put at least three on the board. Kansas City intending to play backups on defense should be all the more reason to think this is a safe prediction.
Only a handful of snaps for the exciting Seahawks second-round rookie last week. He seemingly took a false step that he was able to play through before checking out for the night. I’ll be interested to see how early he plays with the starters...
