Save the drama and rumors, Shedeur Sanders fell for a few reasons but has 2 he must overcome
The soap box that I used back in 2023 for many of my takes will not be brought back (it’s been retired… for now). Sometimes, it will be brought back out, but it stays in the closet for now.
Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders had an interesting draft weekend to say the least. Many expected Sanders to be drafted during the first day of the draft. Sanders doesn’t hear his name. Day 2 rolls along, and many believe that he will be selected. The New Orleans Saints picked Louisville QB Tyler Shough in the 2nd round while the Browns chose Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel in the 3rd round.
Sanders doesn’t hear his name and thoughts are being shared. Some are valid, others are asinine. Albert Breer shared the more logical take on Sanders and his fall:
Day 3 rolled along, and the slide ends. The Browns traded up and chose Sanders in the 5th round. It took a while, but while Sanders was sliding, many viewed it as an opportunity to get their takes off. Most of the takes were in bad faith, some were in good faith and some lacked logic.
Sanders' fall into the 5th round is not very complicated despite some trying to find some big dark reason for it:
As a prospect, Sanders was more of an early/late Day 2 pick.
There are areas of the predraft process where Sanders could have done things differently that are not based on anonymous sources or random “reports,” just facts:
Should he have fallen to the 5th round? No, but he could’ve done things differently.
Can he elevate a franchise? We shall see. He’s in a crowded quarterback room but, like all of the QBs, will get a chance.
