BALTIMORE — As the Baltimore Ravens drove downfield to cut their deficit down some in the fourth quarter, Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Brandin Echols exited the game to be checked for a concussion. Echols was tabbed as questionable to return, but stood on the sideline with his helmet on.

Echols soon re-entered to help halt the Ravens’ next possession.

Echols is far from the first Steelers player to be evaluated for a head injury during the matchup. Offensive tackle Andrus Peat, inside linebacker Malik Harrison and tight end Darnell Washington all left the game with similar ailments.

Entering Sunday’s clash with his team’s bitter AFC North rival, Echols had recorded 40 tackles, two interceptions, five passes defended, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

The Steelers’ secondary has dealt with injuries all season. Regular starting safety DeShon Elliott landed on injured reserve with a badly hyperextended knee suffered during a loss against the Green Bay Packers. Against the Ravens, the Steelers were missing Kyle Dugger (hand), acquired to help soften the blow of losing Elliott.

Veteran coverman Jalen Ramsey was a rover-type defensive back for most of the first half of the season, but has been stationed on the back end as of late.
