If it’s up entirely to San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Colton McKivitz, he’ll be a Niner for life.

“I want to be on that 10-year wall,” McKivitz said recently, via Briana Jeannel of San Francisco’s official website.

“I don’t want to leave here. Obviously being cut, I’ve got some scars there. But, there was a reason why I was drafted here, why I was cut here, and why I still play here. Now I’ve had three good seasons of starting and I’m going into the fourth.”

McKivitz is entering his seventh season in the league, and he’s spent his entire pro career so far with the 49ers, who took a chance on him with a fifth-round pick (153rd overall) in the 2020 edition of the NFL draft.

The 29-year-old McKivitz started in only three games during his rookie season and then in just one in the following campaign, as he was waived by San Francisco before getting signed to the team’s practice squad. In the 2022 season, he missed games as he was placed on the injured reserve due to an ankle injury.

Since then, the West Virginia Mountaineers football product has started in every 49ers game, appearing in at least 82 percent of special-teams snaps and at least 98 percent of offensive snaps.

McKivitz, who was fourth among 89 tackles in 2025 with 1,116 offense snaps played, clearly has tremendous love for the 49ers, who opened their wallets to keep him around longer. After just the first week of the 2026 NFL season, San Francisco signed him to a three-year, $45 million contract extension.
