As San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle suffered a hamstring injury during the opening 17-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks, fans had been wondering about the severity of the issue. While it appeared the 49ers star would miss multiple weeks, the extent of his absence has been revealed as Adam Schefter reports the team will put the player on injured reserve.

“Sources: 49ers are placing Pro Bowl TE George Kittle on injured reserve, meaning he now will miss at least the next four games,” Shcefter wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Kittle injured his hamstring during Sunday’s win over Seattle and now will miss games at New Orleans, vs. Atlanta, Jacksonville, and at the Rams.”

Kittle was in the midst of a solid outing against Seattle as he caught four passes for 25 yards and a touchdown reception before exiting the game with a hamstring injury. Before it was reported that Kittle would be on the injured list, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network said that he’d be “out multiple weeks.”

“In addition: TE George Kittle is out multiple weeks with a hamstring injury, while the team is doing a CT scan on Jauan Jennings to make sure his shoulder is OK,” Rapoport wrote on X.

No word yet if 49ers’ George Kittle’s hamstring injury is serious

The 49ers are dealing with an immense amount of injuries besides Kittle, like quarterback Brock Purdy and wide receiver Jauan Jennings, as all of their status for Week 2 seems to be up in the air. Looking at the star tight end, though, Rapoport questions the notion that the team believes the hamstring injury is serious.

“Generally, when a player is ruled out, that indicates a major injury. I’m not so sure here,” Rapoport said. “George Kittle is going to undergo an MRI, and certainly, this can be the 49ers being cautious, knowing that it is Week 1 of 17, knowing that he is one of the best players. He wanted to stay out of injury trouble, the fact that he remained on the sidelines and remained in uniform.”
