There will be no Tre Brown revenge game then the San Francisco 49ers come to town for Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.

The 2021 fourth-round pick and former starting cornerback was placed on injured reserve due to a heel injury, clearing the way for the 49ers to add former Kansas City Chiefs receiver Skyy Moore to the team after trading for him on Wednesday. This roster move ends Brown’s season before it can really begin.

Brown saw his rookie season cut short after a significant knee injury suffered against the Arizona Cardinals. He missed much of 2022 before a handful of snaps late in the season. Brown was able to win the starting job over Mike Jackson Sr in 2023, recording a memorable pick-six off Jared Goff in Seattle’s overtime win over the Detroit Lions. Some early-season struggles and a midseason injury cost Brown his starting spot, which was ceded to Josh Jobe, all but signaling that Brown wouldn’t be re-signed by Seattle.

When the 49ers signed Brown there was a reasonable assumption that he’d be a part of their secondary rotation, especially after Charvarius Ward, Isaac Yiadom, and Rock Ya-Sin all left in free agency. Rookie Upton Stout and free agent acquisition Dallis Flowers have apparently done enough to move Brown further down the depth chart, so Brown was in an unfavorable roster situation even before his injury.

It’s unfortunately another lost season for Brown, who had spells of good play for the Seahawks, but now is forced to look ahead to 2026.
