The San Francisco 49ers’ inactive list is out. We found out this morning that the Niners would be without starting quarterback Brock Purdy and wide receiver Jauan Jennings.
During warmups, rookie left guard Connor Colby was on the field. He is active for today’s game. Here is the list of inactives:
QB Brock Purdy
RB Jordan James
WR Jordan Watkins
WR Jauan Jennings
DT Jordan Jefferson
LB Nick Martin
Colby played starter snaps last week after replacing Ben Bartch and looked the part. This will be a step up in class athletically, especially if the Cardinals line up Josh Sweat inside. Still, it’s a benefit that the Niners won’t have to start a third different left guard in as many games.
Arizona will be short-handed in the secondary and along the offensive line:
CB Will Johnson
LT Paris Johnson
OL Will Hernandez
RB Bam Knight
LB Xavier Thomas
WR Xaiver Weaver
Johnson was a top-10 pick. He’s one of the best pass-protecting tackles in the NFL. The drop-off from Johnson should be significant. The same is likely true for rookie Will Johnson. That’s a boost for the 49ers’ pass rush, perhaps more importantly, a boost for a banged-up wide receiver group.
Kelvin Beachum will replace Johnson. In two games last year against the 49ers, Beachum allowed three pressures and a quarterback hit. The 49ers have upgraded their defensive front and coordinator. Beachum will be in for a significantly bigger challenge today.
