After taking home UFL MVP honors last month, quarterback Jack Plummer is garnering NFL attention as teams begin assembling for training camp. Plummer is scheduled to work out for the 49ers on Friday and the Dolphins next week, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 reports.
Plummer, who went undrafted out of Louisville two years ago, carries some NFL experience. He spent most of 2024 on the Panthers’ practice squad. They signed Plummer to their active roster for a Week 17 matchup against the Buccaneers, but he did not see any action in a 48-14 loss. Plummer stayed in the organization to vie for a roster spot last summer, though he did not survive final cuts after going 23 for 38 for 210 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions in three preseason games.
Resurfacing this spring with the UFL’s Orlando Storm, Plummer excelled over 10 starts. While guiding the Storm to a league-best 8-2 record, the 26-year-old led the UFL in yards (2,188) and passer rating (104.1). He completed 65% of his 300 attempts and fired 17 TDs against just one INT. However, Plummer did not carry his regular-season success into the playoffs for the one-and-done Storm. He went 15 of 28 for 226 yards, a TD and a pick in a 28-22 loss to the DC Defenders.
As he eyes a return to the NFL, Plummer will meet with a Kyle Shanahan-led San Francisco team that has an established starter (Brock Purdy) and a top-tier backup (Mac Jones). The 49ers also have 2025 seventh-round pick Kurtis Rourke and Adrian Martinez around as third-string possibilities.
Miami does not have a proven starter, but former Titans and Packers backup Malik Willis is the Dolphins’ clear-cut QB1 after signing a three-year, $67.5MM deal in free agency. Quinn Ewers, who joined Rourke as a seventh-rounder last year, will likely back up Willis. The only other QBs on the roster are 2025 sixth-rounder Cam Miller and undrafted rookie Mark Gronowski.
