The 49ers will host the Broncos for a joint practice on Dwight Clark Day, then travel to Henderson, Nevada, on August 14 for joint practices against the Raiders

The NFL announced the official start dates of training camps, along with joint practice dates and locations, on Wednesday afternoon. The San Francisco 49ers’ rookies will report on July 15 at the SAP Performance Facility in Santa Clara, California. The veterans report a week later on July 22.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan expects safety Ji’Ayir Brown, who had “ankle cleanup surgery” this offseason, and Ricky Pearsall, who suffered a non-serious hamstring injury, to return at the beginning of training camp after missing mini-camp.

It’ll be the first time we see rookies Mykel Williams and Alfred Collins in live action, after Shanahan said he was “just being smart” with his potential starting defensive line.

The 49ers hold their annual scrimmage on Dwight Clark Day, which takes place every year on August 7. This season, they’ll host the Denver Broncos and a slew of former Niners, including Dre Greenlaw, D.J. Jones, and Talanoa Hufanga.

That’s not the only joint practice the 49ers will have in August. On August 14, they’ll travel to Henderson, Nevada, to take on the new look Las Vegas Raiders, led by Pete Carroll and Geno Smith.

Having joint practices that close together will break up the monotony of training camp and keep the 49ers' competitive spirits at an all-time high.

It’ll also allow the coaching staff to highlight some of their younger players who might be forced into early action against a different colored jersey in a controlled setting. That’s a fantastic evaluation tool to lean on.

After an offseason without drama, the 49ers can focus on football in just over a month from now.
