The Dallas Cowboys waived CB Trevon Diggs late Tuesday morning, shocking analysts and fans alike.
If you have been following the Cowboys this season, you already know there was some turmoil between Diggs and the team since the offseason.
Diggs saw his 2024 season cut short after tearing his ACL in a Week 3 practice before a road trip to Arizona to face the Cardinals.
Much to the team’s dismay, Diggs resorted to his own rehab team away from the Cowboys’ facility.
Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys have some of the best surgeons and rehabilitation specialists in the world, but the former All-Pro cornerback remained steadfast in his approach.
Diggs came back sooner than expected, but the damaged relationship was irreparable.
Throw in trading away his best friend and teammate, Micah Parsons, to the Green Bay Packers less than a month before the season, and it was a recipe for disaster.
The relationship between Diggs and the team deteriorated enough to waive him before the season is over, but the Cowboys actually are doing him a favor.
By waiving him now, he can be claimed by a playoff team for postseason depth in the secondary, and he should have plenty of suitors.
The move gives Diggs a chance to finish the season playing for a contender, and removes any drama from the Cowboys’ locker room.
Trevon Diggs might not have looked all that great this season, but did you see the rest of the Cowboys’ defense?
It is the worst defense in franchise history if you’re going by points allowed (477 with one game to go), and several players looked like they regressed.
We have seen what Diggs can do, and nobody will convince me it wasn’t just a terrible scheme that put him out of position too many times.
He has plenty left in the tank, and fresh legs for a playoff push after spending most of the season on Injured Reserve.
Here are some confirmed playoff teams that should be making a claim for Diggs’ services.
Chicago Bears
This one makes too much sense simply because of the presence of Al Harris on the Bears’ defensive staff.
Diggs played his best football under Harris, who was defensive backs coach in Dallas under former DC Dan Quinn.
It should come as no surprise that the Bears lead the league in takeaways, led by former Cowboy Nahshon Wright and S Kevin Byard, coming in as the only teammates in the NFL to have at least five interceptions, each.
Adding Diggs to the rotation could make the Bears’ secondary impenetrable in the postseason.
Philadelphia Eagles
I would probably vomit in my mouth a little if Howie Roseman and the Eagles somehow ended up with Trevon Diggs.
However, there is an argument that they need his services.
