Four teams are said to be in for Matthew Stafford as he prepares to leave the Los Angeles Rams in the offseason.

Stafford had another solid season under center for L.A. in 2024, getting the team as far as the Divisional Round.

The Rams were also the only team to give themselves a serious shot at beating the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs, however, the team is thought to be keen on going younger, having already put veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp on the market.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, there’s plenty of interest in the 37-year-old QB, with the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Las Vegas Raiders all keen on exploring a trade as Stafford’s camp has been granted permission to speak to other teams.

Breer has also pointed out that it won’t be easy to get a deal over the line, given the player’s salary and what the Rams might want in exchange.

“What’s hard to know now, though, is what the Rams would be willing to take to part with Stafford. If it’s a first-round pick, would the aforementioned teams still be willing to do a deal at more than $50 million per year?” he wrote.

“And if that first-round pick is in the top 10, as is the case with three of the aforementioned four teams, would the Rams be willing to take a 2026 pick instead of one this year? And if not, how in the world do the Rams fix this with Stafford?”

“So here we are now, with Stafford having knowledge on what other teams are willing to pay him, and the Rams sitting there with a strong, young roster, and a timeline that doesn’t quite match up with Stafford’s, and a lot of water under the bridge. It’s a fascinating situation, to say the least.”

Matthew Stafford Expected To Move To New York

Stafford’s exit could take some time due to the complications, but an anonymous NFL GM has suggested that the Giants will be the ones who make the acquisition, while the Rams will try to sign Aaron Rogers.

We’ll have to wait and see whether he’s right, but Stafford returning to Los Angeles this year seems very unlikely in any case.

Matthew Stafford joined the Rams via a trade from the Detroit Lions in 2021, with Jared Goff going the other way. Both quarterbacks have found success since the moves, but Stafford has gone as far as winning a Super Bowl, having fired the Rams to a ring in 2022.

He signed a four-year, $160 million extension with the team after his exploits, but it appears their time together has come to an end.
