30 Day Challenge: Current or Historical Bear I’d Like To Have A Beer With

For today’s 30 Day Challenge article, I was asked to pick a player from the current (or past) Chicago Bears roster that I would most like to share a beer with.

And given the fact that I am currently one of the hosts of our Bears Over Beers podcast at 2nd City Gridiron, the fit here was natural.

I didn’t have to think about this one long; my choice here was almost instantaneous. Hands down, my answer to this question is the “Punky QB” himself, Jim McMahon.

When it comes to Bears players with a reputation for going out and enjoying an adult beverage, McMahon ranks highly on the list. Heck, he didn’t even have to go out. McMahon famously drank one during his introductory press conference!

Are there other players that I considered? Absolutely.

Bryan Orenchuk and I have long joked that one of our dream guests on Bears Over Beers is Kyle Long (anyone got a connection?). I think he’d be a fun former Bears player to sit down with over a cold one.

On the current Bears roster, I’m not even sure who enjoys beer. The offensive linemen seem like a good bet, and I’d wager that Joe Thuney could throw back a few with the best of them. And you wouldn’t have to worry about any unruly drunks if you found yourself out at a bar with Mr. Thuney. You know he’d protect you.

I briefly considered Akiem Hicks, who apparently once drank 40 beers in a day. That sounds crazy (because it is), and I know I couldn’t keep up. So I decided that I would have to pass on sipping on a brewski alongside him.

Then there’s Mongo McMichael, a legendary partier who would have been a lot of fun to drink a beer with for sure. I definitely wouldn’t have passed up that opportunity. At first glance, at least.

Then again, Mongo’s former Four Horsemen buddy Ric Flair may have shown up. And from covering the professional wrestling industry for many years, I can tell you that a Ric Flair party is one that I’d probably have to pass on. Flair’s drinking outings make Akiem Hick’s record look like the minor leagues, and I’m just not cut out for that anymore!

Yeah, I’ll stick with #9.

Now it’s your turn. Who’s one player from the current (or past) Chicago Bears roster that you wish you could have a beer with? Sound off in the comments below.
