Even though the temperature is dropping and days are getting shorter, the good vibes have returned to the PNW after a stomping of the New Orleans Saints last week and a playoff run for the Seattle Mariners! If you’re into YouTube streamers, seeing IShowSpeed come to Seattle recently was a big deal, as well. Up next on the local docket is a primetime stage for the Seahawks against perennial ‘little brother’, the Arizona Cardinals.
Although vibes are high for the Hawks, said little brother has been in the gym recently. Arizona plays host tonight having declared themselves as a top 5 scoring defense. Another test for Sam Darnold, Klint Kubiak and the point-scoring side of the football.
Let’s take a look at three unexpected heroes who could make plays to propel this Seattle team ahead in the still early divisional race.
With regular swing tackle, Josh Jones ruled out for Week 4, there is a void as a rotational piece and a backup to Charles Cross and Abe Lucas. With Jones playing 33% of snaps in the previous game, the practice squad call for Amari Kight may result in gametime no matter what.
Now, the Seahawks could always modify their use of formations to fit the personnel. I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Kight during preseason play, but who knows if Mike Macdonald, Klint Kubiak and John Benton actually prefer Mason Richman in that role for now. Richman was a draft pick and a player who actually made the initial 53-man roster. One of these two young blockers may get some run helping the Hawks to establish the run.
Seahawks fans will sadly still have to wait to see more of promising rookie DB Nick Emmanwori. because of his absence, Devon Witherspoon (who missed last week) will most likely play a lot in the slot. Derion Kendrick did a great job filling in while both were out and may be relied upon to spell Spoon every now and then. On top of that, Kendrick is probably also the first man up if any of the corners get hurt or need a blow. From being cut by the Rams to stepping into the void created by injuries in Seattle, this 4th-year player has held his own.
D.K. (as Mike has jarringly called him) has recorded 2 INTs in 2 games played… he should’ve, could’ve, would’ve had a third. When you take into account that he’s allowed a league-best passer rating of 12.0 when targeted it gets you excited for the possibilities.
Fan favorite Brady Russell will take on a bigger role against AZ. Bigger fan favorite, fullback Robbie Ouzts, was placed on IR this week. Ouzts has been doing a lot of the dirty work, blocking on the move for Seattle’s stable of running backs, and Russell will now be called upon for those duties. Brady Russell will be a lead-blocking fullback at times, we may see him as a detached TE,...
