The Los Angeles Rams wrapped up their final preseason game of the 2025 campaign, and while LA lost to the Cleveland Browns 17-19, some of the team’s young players were still able to standout among the many trying to make the 53-man roster. It’s clear that guys like second round pick TE Terrance Ferguson and fourth round pick RB Jarquez Hunter are locks to make the roster based on their solid play but also their draft position, however, Los Angeles has been also able to find some diamonds in the rough through undrafted free agent signings in the past and may have again this year.
This feels like an obvious choice at this point, and it feels like that because Dolac has played so well during his time on the field. The undrafted rookie out of the University of Buffalo amassed 14 total tackles in two games and showed a clear understanding of the Rams defense. Dolac was not given any snaps in the team’s final preseason game, which would normally be a bad thing for an undrafted player, but in Dolac’s case it’s because he was too busy getting first team reps in practice this week.
McVay commented on Dolac’s absence after the final preseason matchup, saying it was probably “a good sign for him”.
“We’ll continue to evaluate, but he made his presence felt on [special] teams,” McVay said. “I think he’s played really well for those inside ‘backers. He’s got a good understanding of what we’re trying to get done, the intent of things. Been really pleased with him.”
You don’t have to look too far to find a perfect comparison for Dolac’s upward trajectory this preseason. LB Omar Speights was an undrafted preseason superstar last year for LA, becoming arguably the team’s best inside linebacker in 2024 with 67 total tackles, one sack and one forced fumble. Speights now goes into 2025 expected to be one of the team’s starting linebackers, showing the Rams don’t care where you’re drafted, if you can play, they’ll put you on the field.
Unlike Dolac, this is Lampkin’s second year in the Rams defensive back room after joining the team as an undrafted player last season. Lampkin has been all over the field for Los Angeles, jumping off the screen with some monster hits, and seems to have taken a major step forward in his development.
Lampkin finishes his preseason effort with 10 total tackles, one pass defended and one interception. The Rams secondary is one of the most questionable position groups on the team, so any success found at that position is one to take note of. While Lampkin is probably not supplanting anyone in a starting role right now, he could find himself in a rotation late in the season if he continues to develop like he has.
Los Angeles currently carries 10 corners so a good chunk of them will probably be released or signed to...
