The New York Giants are reportedly in the market to land an impact receiver before next month’s NFL trade deadline. A new rumors report has offered up three interesting options that should be on their radar.
After a 0-3 start to the new season, there is renewed hope that the G-Men may be able to compete for a playoff spot this season. They head into Week 7 with a 2-4 record, and rookie QB Jaxson Dart has turned the offense into a competent unit worthy of respect. But there is one big problem. They lack a true threat in their receiving corps.
In Dart’s victorious debut against the Los Angeles Chargers three weeks ago, star pass catcher Malik Nabers suffered a serious injury and is now out for the season. After the former first-round pick, the Giants’ receiving room is filled with players who would be the WR3 or worse on a playoff contender. That is why they are badly in need of wide receiver help and have been “aggressive” to find one on the trade market.
Well, some intriguing options of varying impact levels are rumored to be officially available.
“The Raiders are open to moving receiver Jakobi Meyers, while making calls on defensive linemen and corners,” The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported on Saturday.
Before the new season kicked off, the seven-year veteran reportedly requested a trade after the Las Vegas Raiders were unwilling to offer him a contract extension. The receiver is in the final year of a three-season pact he signed in 2023.
Despite a messy QB situation for the Raiders last season, Meyers had a career year as he posted 1,027 receiving yards on 87 catches. He would immediately be the new WR1 if the Giants landed him. However, Meyers is not the only option.
“The Titans are open for business on every player but QB Cam Ward and defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. They are looking to stockpile future picks,” Russini also reported.
That is intriguing news for the Giants because the Titans have a pair of veteran players that could appeal to Big Blue. The report would suggest that four-time 1,000-plus yard receiver Calvin Ridley is available. He would be a very nice addition for the Giants and is signed for the next two seasons. The only issue is if the team wants to pay the over $40 million left on his deal.
If they would like to simply add some decent veteran depth from the Titans, there is also former Seattle Seahawks star Tyler Lockett. While he is nowhere near the player he was years ago, he would come at a cheaper rate and would be a bargain rental for the rest of the season.
