2026 NFL Draft: Steelers Scout Rising Alabama Quarterback

2026 NFL Draft: Steelers Scout Rising Alabama Quarterback
Steelers Now Steelers Now

Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson has been climbing up the 2026 NFL Draft boards, and the Pittsburgh Steelers sent a scout to see his game on Saturday, the second time the Steelers have scouted Simpson this season.

Simpson started the season No. 603 on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board. The redshirt junior would probably have returned to Alabama with an undrafted rating, but through five games, he’s been rocketing up boards.

After throwing for 1,478 yards and 13 touchdowns compared to one interception, Simpson is now the No. 65 player on the big board.

The Steelers previously scouted Simpson in a loss at Florida State earlier this season.

THIRD TIME’S THE CHARM?

The Steelers scouted three quarterbacks for the third time this season — Penn State’s Drew Allar, Oklahoma’s John Mateer and Texas’ Arch Manning.

Penn State hosted Northwestern at Beaver Stadium on Saturday. The Steelers sent two scouts to see the Nittany Lions, after previously seeing them play UCLA and FIU.

Mateer returned from a hand injury for Oklahoma in the Sooners’ Red River Rivalry game with Texas in Dallas. The Steelers previously saw Mateer face Michigan and Temple, and saw Manning and Texas face Ohio State and Florida.
