2026 NFL Draft: Steelers Again Scout Fast-Rising Oregon QB

2026 NFL Draft: Steelers Again Scout Fast-Rising Oregon QB
Steelers Now Steelers Now

The Pittsburgh Steelers got another look at fast-rising Oregon quarterback Dante Moore on Saturday, the second time the Steelers have scouted the Ducks prospect in person this season.

They got to see a doozie from Moore and the Ducks, as he threw for four touchdowns in an Oregon shellacking of Rutgers, 56-10. They also scouted Moore in Oregon’s win over Penn State on Sept. 27.

A 6-foot-3, 206-pound native of East Cleveland, Ohio, Moore started his college career at UCLA, where he played in nine games as a freshman, but transferred to Oregon in 2024, sitting behind Dillon Gabriel last season before emerging as the starter this offseason.

Through seven games, he’s completed 72.3% of his passes, and thrown for 1,686 yards, 19 touchdowns and four interceptions. He’s sixth in the nation with a 176.8 passer rating.

With his lack of previous success, Moore was a non-entity in terms of draft stock entering the season. It wasn’t until a month of the season had gone by that he entered the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board top 100.

Now, he’s risen all the way to No. 3, and is the second quarterback behind Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, who out-dueled Moore and the Ducks in Week 7.

IS TACKLE ON THE BOARD?

It was a light week in terms of Steelers scout reports. That doesn’t mean they weren’t out there — it just means their presence wasn’t necessarily spotted, reported or publicized.

But of the two games we know they attended, it happens that three of the top offensive tackle prospects in the draft class were involved. Utah has two of them, including the top dog, No. 8 overall prospect Spencer Fano, to go along with No. 23 prospect Caleb Lomu.

Those two were the only top 100 prospects playing in Saturday’s Utah at BYU game, which is pretty interesting. The Steelers have been singularly focused on the quarterback position for the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, but that means they’ve also seen some of the other top tackles.

No. 10 Francis Maugioa blocks for Carson Beck at Miami and No. 13 Kadyn Proctor is on the line in front of Ty Simpson at Alabama. On Saturday, they also saw No. 36 Isaiah World block for Moore with Oregon.

This offseason, the Steeles will have to make a decision about the fifth-year option of left tackle Broderick Jones, and they could be doing due diligence about what the potential replacement options look like if they balk at the price tag.
