Dawgs By Nature
The Cleveland Browns enter 2026 in an interesting place. The team’s five-win 2025 season exposed fundamental roster flaws, offensive shortcomings, and major special teams mistakes that ultimately led to its downfall. Looking forward to a fresh new season, do the Browns have an opportunity to become a true playoff contender, or is it more likely that they will be in reset mode?
A lot could depend on their head coaching search, but the roster is set up to go in either direction.
On the defensive side of the ball, the team has definitely built a contender. That group will still face some uncertainty, as the coaching staff could undergo significant turnover. The players on the defense have been brought to Cleveland because they fit a specific mold, so if the style of the defense changes drastically, there could be a bit of a learning curve on that side of the ball. Regardless, they still have foundational pieces like Myles Garrett and Denzel Ward, as well as young standouts like Mason Graham and Carson Schwesinger that will ensure they put a solid product on the field.
The direction of the offense will truly show whether this team can become a contender or needs more time to reset. Adding a veteran bridge quarterback would help stabilize both the position and the broader offense. The draft will be a great opportunity to re-tool the rest of the offense, specifically on the offensive line and wide receiver group. Surrounding a bridge quarterback with good talent could be just enough to keep this team in contention and allow them to win close games.
If the offense chooses to move forward with Shedeur Sanders or a new rookie quarterback, it is more likely that they will be in reset mode for 2026. Sanders has shown some growth but still needs to prove that he can deliver consistently. A rookie quarterback will certainly need significant time as well to grow into a leader who can take this team to the playoffs. A lot is up in the air for 2026, and the front office will need to decide what they want to be.
