K Brandon McManus, DT T.J. Slaton and LB Isaiah McDuffie get no love
Pro Football Talk finally published its initial top 100 free agents for the 2025 offseason. To my surprise, Green Bay Packers center Josh Myers was ranked 27th on the list and was the only Packer on the list at all.
Myers is only three spots below former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and two spots below Minnesota Vikings cornerback Byron Murphy, who was considered a franchise tag candidate until he and the team negotiated to move his void year trigger date to after the tag window. That seems a little high!
Last year, Jon Runyan Jr., who was a rotational player in his last season in Green Bay, received a $10 million per year contract. Maybe Myers can command something like that, but it seems unlikely that lightning will strike twice, especially after his leg injury against the Philadelphia Eagles. The initial belief was that he fractured his leg, though, the center later stated that the good news is that he “got lucky” with just a hairline fracture. Still, that’s not the type of news you want to approach clubs with as a top-30 free agent in the class.
For perspective, here are a couple of names that Myers was ranked over:
If anything, I think they got the wrong Packer. Kicker Brandon McManus will be the best player at his position on the open market if he’s allowed to hit free agency. While the list didn’t include a single specialist, I probably would have thrown McManus’ name up there before Myers, who has been arguably the weakest starter on the Packers’ offensive line the last two seasons.
Whenever Green Bay decides to pull the trigger on the release of cornerback Jaire Alexander, he’ll likely be added to the list. Some other honorable mentions for potentially well-regarded Packers free agents would be starting defensive tackle T.J. Slaton and starting linebacker Isaiah McDuffie. I wouldn’t be surprised if anyone from that trio ends up netting more money than Myers next month.
