Could the Chargers find their new number one receiver in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft?

It’s no secret the Los Angeles Chargers need to add more weapons to their passing game despite the breakout of last year’s second round pick in Ladd McConkey. The 2025 receiver class isn’t quite as stacked as the year prior, but it does contain a few potential studs including Texas pass catcher Matthew Golden.

Golden showed up big time for the Longhorns this year, wracking up 58 catches, 987 yards, and 9 touchdowns on the season for their dominant offense. Golden showed extreme polish at the position and a tenacity that helped make up for his average size. While Golden played mostly out of the slot, he showed the ability to line up anywhere on the field and make defensive backs pay with high levels of ball tracking and a legitimate run-after-catch ability.

For the Chargers Golden could be used in a variety of ways and would not be locked into the slot role that is taken up mostly by McConkey. Golden would be a solid receiver on the boundary and play the class ‘X’ role as needed. You can never have too many dynamic weapons on offense and Golden would make the Chargers offense even more explosive down the field.
