The Chargers could look to target one of the consistently productive edge rushers of the 2025 NFL Draft
The Los Angeles Chargers could use some young blood down at the edge position with the upcoming departure of Khalil Mack and their franchise staple in Joey Bosa dipping in his production as his tenure continues with the team. While Tuli Tuipulotu did have a solid season, it stands to reason the team will want a long term running mate to go alongside him, and there is one name that stands out when it comes to what Jim Harbaugh is looking for on defense. That is Ohio State’s standout defender Jack Sawyer.
Sawyer has been a staple in the Ohio State defense for the last few seasons, standing out as the teams consistent and reliable edge rusher. In his last two seasons with the team Sawyer has managed to wrack up 15.5 sacks and create a reputation for himself as one of the more persistent and dynamic rusher in all of college football. Sawyer is a reliable run stopper as well, showing intuitive ability to sustain blocks and shed them off into the run lanes of opposing backs. While Sawyer doesn’t have as high a ceiling as other edge rushers in this class, he is one of the more “sure things” to come out this year. Sawyer stands to insert himself as a reliable starter for years to come and could become a 10+ sack man in the league rather quickly.
It’s not hard to imagine the Chargers staying put at their original draft selection and taking Sawyer, but it is also possible given the depth of the defensive line of this class that the team opts to move towards the end of the first round or top of the second in order to snag some extra draft capital along with a reliable starter. The pre-draft process will be important to Sawyer and could decide whether he remains in range or perhaps moves up on draft boards. Sawyer would be a fantastic fit for the Bolts and could easily be the pick come April.
