Can Bech be the next Cooper Kupp?

Players on winning teams and prospects with elite physical traits always get the most attention when Draft Season rolls around. But as the scouting community turns back to the tape, players who flew under the radar always seem to get surfaced.

TCU wide receiver Jake Bech wasn’t even flying under the radar prior to 2024 — he was a non-factor. He had 28 catches for 346 yards and 1 touchdown over the previous two seasons combined for LSU and TCU (he transferred between 2022 and 2023).

But then he managed to quietly have a breakout year in 2024 for TCU with 62 receptions for 1,032 yards and 9 touchdowns. It was enough to earn an invite to the Reese’s Senior Bowl where he was one of the very best receivers in practice and won the MVP for the game.

Bech isn’t an elite athlete, but he makes the absolute most of what he has and is the type of player who’s simply always open and catches anything thrown in his vicinity.

The New York Giants might need a player like Bech to complement Malik Nabers, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Jalin Hyatt. But are his “sleeper” days over?

Jack Bech is a good-sized receiving prospect with alignment versatility, great quickness and ball skills, and pro-ready route running.

Bech has solid size for the NFL at 6-foot 1 ¼ inches, 212 pounds with 31 ⅜ inch arms. He has the size to hold up to aggressive coverage and win in contested catch situations, has a good-sized catch radius, and match up as a blocker.

That said, Bech will make his money with his route running and ball skills. He is a smart, savvy, and detailed route runner who understands how to find voids in coverage and uses every piece of his route as a weapon. He has a diverse release package that allows him to quickly get into his route against any coverage without any wasted motion or energy.

Bech does a great job of toying with his pacing, route tempo, stem shape, and selling misdirection to disrupt defensive backs. He pushes his short routes vertically while changing his stride length or bending his route stem to create opportunities to separate at the top of vertical routes. He also shows an advanced understanding of coverage schemes and easily settles into the voids between defenders.

Bech is a natural hands catcher who easily locates and tracks the ball in the air, and makes good adjustments to maximize his catch radius. His frame lets him box out defenders and he’s a natural hands catcher who extends to pluck the ball...
