As the 2025 NFL draft approaches along with free agency, the needs of the Pittsburgh Steelers will become more clear. However, based on the fact the Steelers stand to lose running back Najee Harris to free agency and want to play a run-first, run-heavy scheme, a replacement back is going to be a top priority.
When it comes to the draft, one running back stands above the rest. Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty had a legendary season in 2024 rushing for 2,601 yards and 30 total touchdowns. Jeanty is the complete package and is one of those rare talents whose style lines up with any scheme.
On paper, there’s no reason Jeanty should be on the board when the Steelers pick at No. 21. But as we’ve seen, running backs are historically undervalued in the league while positions like offensive and defensive line could fill the top half of the first round. If Jeanty slips far enough to be in striking distance, the Steelers could make an easy move up and land a potential franchise back.
