The New York Jets keep finding new ways to lose

The New York Jets were home at MetLife Stadium on Sunday to try to turn things around on a lost season. It didn’t happen. The Seattle Seahawks certainly tried to help the Jets out in their endeavor to get a win. The Seahawks kept giving the Jets gifts, and the Jets took advantage, at first. The Jets went up 21 - 7 early in the game by virtue of multiple Seahawks turnovers. The Jets were knocking on the door of a three touchdown lead in the second quarter when they began to self-destruct. Inside the Seahawks’ ten yard line, Aaron Rodgers missed an easy throw to a wide open Garrett Wilson in the end zone. On the next play Rodgers threw over the middle. Leonard Williams surprised Rodgers by dropping into coverage. Williams picked off the pass and rumbled 92 yards for a Seahawks touchdown. It was a two touchdown swing in the course of two plays, and it completely changed the game. The Jets never scored another point in the game. The Seahawks went on to score 19 unanswered points the rest of the way and the Jets lost yet another game in this disastrous season.

With the Jets defense joining the offense in ineptitude the last several games, this team has reached new depths of despair. There is nothing this team does well. Nothing. In a season the Jets were supposed to be contenders, the team is now a legitimate contender for the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

How did the power rankings feel about this latest Jets travesty? Let’s find out.

29. Jets 3-9 (25)

They find new and creative ways to lose games every week. They are such a sloppy team. It’s over.

Last week’s result: lost to Seattle, 26–21

This week: at Miami

The first thought that came to mind when I watched the Jets score a touchdown on the Isaiah Davis shovel pass was: Okay! This is the kind of offense I’d picture the Steelers running with a late-career Ben Roethlisberger (they didn’t). Rodgers had the RPO game working early and got some Davante Adams single coverage situations that placed him in something of a groove. He looked healthy. Almost enough that you could convince me to run it back.

Of course, when you factor in that the Jets were spotted two possessions via fumbled kick returns and the team still lost…well…that takes a bit of the wind out of the old sails, doesn’t it?
