Putting a bow on the Jaguars’ 2024 NFL season.
To put a bow on the 2024-25 NFL season, we’re asking Jacksonville Jaguars fans for their picks on typical season-long awards — MVP, Defensive Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, etc.
The league’s official awards will be announced at the 14th annual NFL Honors event on Feb. 6.
Next up: Offensive Rookie of the Year (OROY) and Defensive Rookie of the Year (DROY).
For OROY, I voted for Brian Thomas Jr.
It’d be nice to spread out the awards and not give so many to Thomas Jr., but it’s hard not to vote for him here. Foster was active for 4 games and played 12 snaps (all on special teams) while Robinson was active for 6 games and played 56 snaps (all but 5 on special teams).
For DROY, I voted for Jarrian Jones.
This one is a closer race, and should ultimately come down to Jones or Smith. The latter had his fair share of splash plays — especially in the second half of the season — but Jones was active in all 17 games and saw double-digit defensive snaps in all but one contest.
Jones was the only Jaguars defender to allow a sub-100 passer rating in coverage in 2024. According to Sports Info Solutions, he ranked 10th among 103 qualifying cornerbacks in yards per coverage snap allowed.
From PFF: “Among 42 slot cornerbacks to play 100 or more coverage snaps, the rookie ranked 11th in passer rating allowed (82.5), 13th in yards per snap (1.02) and ninth in snaps per target (6.6). On top of that, Jones contributed a stellar 88.5 PFF run-defense grade with 17 stops.”
