Putting a bow on the Jaguars’ 2024 NFL season.
To put a bow on the 2024-25 NFL season, we’re asking Jacksonville Jaguars fans for their picks on typical season-long awards — MVP, Defensive Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, etc.
The league’s official awards will be announced at the 14th annual NFL Honors event on Feb. 6.
Look to see who won Jaguars 2024 MVP HERE
Next up: Offensive Player of the Year (OPOY) and Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY).
For OPOY, I voted for Brian Thomas Jr.
I originally planned to vote for somebody else, considering he already won the MVP vote, but the NFL has seen one player win MVP and OPOY in the same season many times.
Thomas Jr. finished the 2024 season with 1,282 receiving yards, third among all NFL players. Brenton Strange was the only other Jaguar to surpass 400 receiving yards.
BT was the unquestioned alpha of Jacksonville’s offense, and frankly, the only thing keeping them afloat. I think he deserves multiple awards for his record-breaking rookie campaign.
For DPOY, I voted for Josh Hines-Allen.
He didn’t have as many sacks as Travon Walker (8 vs 10.5) but JHA finished with more quarterback hits (8 vs 6) and total pressures (63 vs 56) plus a higher pass rush win rate on true pass sets (20.4% vs 13.9%).
Hines-Allen ranked 16th among all defensive linemen in Brandon Thorn’s True Pressure Rate during the 2024-25 NFL season; Walker finished 34th.
It may have been an underwhelming season relative to his 2023 campaign and considering the defense’s general lack of success, but make no mistake: Hines-Allen remains a force to be reckoned with on the edge of Jacksonville’s front seven.
