10 things overheard as the Chiefs beat the Texans in the Divisional round

You won’t believe what we heard while Kansas City was defeating Houston.

On Saturday, the Kansas City Chiefs handed the Houston Texans a 23-14 defeat in a Divisional playoff game. Here’s some of what Tom Ruprecht overheard on GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

1. “The booze helps make it feel like 9 or 10 degrees!”
2. “This is Patrick Mahomes’ first game since Christmas — which reminds me: I’ve really gotta take down that tree!”
3. “The game’s going to come down to the Xs and Os. Well, and Os and Ts for To’o To’o.”
4. “It’s nice to finally see what happens when Mahomes throws one of those horizontal-to-the-ground passes to someone other than Darrell Williams.”
5. “Huh. Usually Travis Kelce doesn’t like being on the big stage.”
6. “Credit to the former Chiefs who came back to help Kansas City win this game: Kareem Hunt and Tommy Townsend.”
7. “Normally, if a defense gets this many sacks, Sam Darnold is running the offense.”
8. “So now, we get a week of people whining that a bad call that led to three points somehow discounts a nine-point victory.”
9. “OK... fine. The officials gave the Chiefs three points. The team had Matt Araiza give two of them back.”
10. “Now let’s hope for a seven-overtime-everybody-gets-mild-hypothermia game in Buffalo.”
