NFL contenders are continuing to get better. For example, the Los Angeles Rams just traded for Myles Garrett, and A.J. Brown was dealt from the Philadelphia Eagles to the New England Patriots. The Rams are now clear-cut favorites to win the Super Bowl, and the Patriots got even better after already making it to that big game last season.
Teams that don’t keep up are at risk of falling into irrelevance, and the Baltimore Ravens are a prime example. The team has been vying to win a championship during the entirety of Lamar Jackson’s tenure, but they’ve continually fallen short. Baltimore even missed the playoffs altogether last season.
It gets harder and harder to find worthwhile additions as the offseason treks on, but there is one move the Ravens must still make, especially after seeing New England trade for Brown. So, who is the free agent that the Ravens must sign?
Jackson is a two-time MVP. While he is one of the best rushing quarterbacks ever, he has also more than proven himself as a passer. Jackson has 22,608 passing yards and 187 touchdowns through the air through eight seasons. He has found success despite having an underwhelming receiving corps around him. Rashod Bateman hasn’t lived up to his potential, and Zay Flowers is good but not great.
The team took Ja’Kobi Lane and Elijah Sarratt in the 2026 NFL Draft, but the rookies are unproven, and the team still lacks pass catching depth. The Ravens were actually just 27th in passing yards (2,985) last season, and they need to get better if they are to compete in a stacked AFC.
Trading for Brown to boost the receiving corps is now off the table, but one of the top receivers in the NFL is still on the open market. That would, of course, be Stefon Diggs. The receiver known for the Minneapolis Miracle is looking to play for his fourth team in as many years, but he isn’t your typical journeyman, nor is the Maryland product washed up.
The four-time Pro Bowler actually led a Patriots team that made it to the Super Bowl in receptions (85) and receiving yards (1,013) last season. The Patriots released him anyway, and although Brown is an upgrade for New England, Diggs still has plenty to offer to whichever team he plays for next.
The receiver has sure hands and elite route running, and he has quickly picked up new playbooks in the past. Now that June is here and teams are going full force in their offseason programs, that has to be an added benefit of adding him.
The biggest thing that has prevented Diggs from signing anywhere this offseason is his legal issues. Diggs was found not guilty in a strangulation/assault case, but the issue involving his chef was one of many off-the-field issues Diggs has had in recent years. Plus, it isn’t clear if the NFL will or won’t suspend him.
The not guilty...
