Let the (bad) Brock Purdy takes continue

Let the (bad) Brock Purdy takes continue

Well, at least there’s some respect

Thank goodness quarterback drama didn’t dominate the headlines of the San Francisco 49ers this offseason for a change. It certainly tried, but the wide receivers stepped in instead. That doesn’t mean there isn’t any storylines on quarterbacks.

There’s Brock Purdy, and “is he or is he not” very good. Yeah. Something says we’re still trying to figure that part out.

Look, I’m not trying to make this a Brock Purdy appreciation thread, but it’s going to start. Everyone is going to do their QB power rankings and you’ll see quite a few say Purdy...

The Ricky Pearsall journey begins

The Ricky Pearsall journey begins

Good first day!

The San Francisco 49ers had their first rookie minicamp practice on Friday and that means we got to see our first glimpse of the future. Earlier Friday they got eight undrafted free agents signed and later the rookies took the field. And Ricky Pearsall, the 49ers first round pick, was on display. A first round pick the 49ers haven’t had since 2021 when they traded up to draft Trey Lance.

Many noted that Pearsall was running smooth routs and got separation. Jennifer Lee Chan noted there was a lot of jersey grabbing by the defensive backs. As...

Hutchinson: 49ers Notes: What we learned in first look at new DC Nick Sorensen

““So he sees things holistically. He knows how to build plans, and then just getting him in here and spending extra hours and just talking to football with him, he’s very bright and is really a humble guy who’s smart and knows football and...

49ers DC Nick Sorensen says second-round pick Renardo Green start out playing nickel

Sorensen believes Green can always move back outside if need be

Sorensen said he’ll coach from the field in 2024, unlike how the defensive coordinator started in 2023. Sorensen said I like being on the field. I was a player, and it feels good to be on the field, and I want to look to players in the eyes and talk to them, and I feel like that’ll be the right thing.”

When asked about the role of second-round pick Renardo Green, Sorensen, with a note...

What 49ers moment in franchise history gave you goosebumps?

What 49ers moment in franchise history gave you goosebumps?

There’s nothing like getting over on Greg Williams

The San Francisco 49ers have several banner moments in NFL history. San Francisco was the first team to have five Super Bowl victories, Joe Montana to Dwight Clark, and “The Catch II” against the Green Bay Packers.

The beauty of this question is there are no wrong answers. Even if you share the same moment with somebody else, you two could gravitate towards different aspects from that play.

Personally, the 49ers moment that will forever give me goosebumps is “The Catch III.”

Let’s set the scene. Jim Harbaugh took over the 49ers...

Predicting the 49ers breakout player: Can Jauan Jennings build off his Super Bowl Performance?

Predicting the 49ers breakout player: Can Jauan Jennings build off his Super Bowl Performance?

It’s not as easy to pick a player after the success they had last season

We highlighted a potential breakout player for the San Francisco 49ers on defense on Thursday. It’s not as easy on the other side of the ball. Not after the season they just had.

There are complaints that George Kittle blocks too much, but he had over 1,000 yards receiving.

Deebo Samuel may not consider it his best season, but his impact on the game was undeniable. He was a force to be reckoned with, with over 1,000 yards from scrimmage and 12 touchdowns. His standout...

Isaac Guerendo’s former college coach compared him to this current NFL running back

A former Badger

Rookie minicamp is underway for the San Francisco 49ers, and the draftees spoke at the podium Thursday. Let’s start with running back Isaac Guerendo, who spoke about his path to the NFL.

Guerendo was exclusively a wide receiver in high school. That could help him get onto the field, perhaps in situations with Christian McCaffrey. Here’s the Niners rookie running back speaking on his wide receiver background:

“It definitely helps me a lot. I think being able to put that on tape is important. Obviously, at Wisconsin, it was more limited. But with the new offense...

Evaluating the 49ers cornerback room for 2024 and beyond

Both of San Francisco’s top cornerbacks are scheduled to be unrestricted free agents next season.

The San Francisco 49ers exceedingly upgraded their cornerback depth this offseason, adding several players to the roster to compete ahead of the 2024 season.

In free agency, the 49ers signed Isaac Yiadom, Rock Ya-Sin, and Chase Lucas, while the team drafted Florida State cornerback Renardo Green in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

They’ll join a group of incumbents headlined by top duo Charvarius Ward and Deommodore Lenoir, with Ambry Thomas, Darrell Luter, and Samuel Womack all returning as well.

Golden Nuggets: RIP Jimmy Johnson

Golden Nuggets: RIP Jimmy Johnson

Your daily San Francisco 49ers news for Friday, May 10th, 2024

Hall of Famer Jimmy Johnson, longtime 49ers DB, dies at 86

“It reached the point when Johnson was at his peak that opponents rarely threw his way. He was Deion Sanders long before Prime Time hit the NFL.

“Jim doesn’t receive much publicity because the opposition avoids him as much as possible,” San Francisco quarterback John Brodie once said. “Talk to veteran quarterbacks like John Unitas and Bart Starr and they’ll tell you they call few pass patterns in Jimmy’s area. The only reason Johnson doesn’t lead the...

Jason breaks down a few passing concepts that Kyle Shanahan will use the 49ers rookie wideouts in

The San Francisco 49ers rookie class reports to Santa Clara on Thursday to prepare for Friday’s opening to rookie minicamp. First-round selection Ricky Pearsall and fourth-round selection Jacob Cowing will be the focus of the minicamp sessions as speculation will begin regarding their fit and readiness for training camp and beyond.

As a fun exercise, I found two passing concepts for each rookie, which put them right at home with the offense and their skillset.

Predicting the 49ers breakout candidate for 2024: Defensive edition

Predicting the 49ers breakout candidate for 2024: Defensive edition

I think we can narrow it down to two names

Talanoa Hufanga’s 2022 season was a testament to his potential as a breakout player. Just like Brandon Aiyuk, who emerged as one of the best receivers in the NFL last season, there's a chance for another player to shine for the San Francisco 49ers this season. Could it be Yetur Gross-Matos, who's ready to step into the role of Charles Omenihu and make a significant impact?

As we consider the options, one name that stands out is Yetur Gross-Matos. He's set to assume the role of Charles Omenihu, and if...
