Should the 49ers have lowered expectations in 2025?

It hasn’t been the offseason many fans expected so far for the 49ers.

It’s been a different offseason than many expected for the San Francisco 49ers, as they let a large contingent of players walk in free agency, while making minimal additions to the roster thus far.

Now, it’s on to the draft for the 49ers, who shed a good amount of salary this offseason, lowering their spend for the first time in a few years as they reset ahead of the upcoming season.

However, as San Francisco pivots, the expectations remain the same for head coach Kyle Shanahan, only...

Kyle Shanahan lays out where the 49ers offensive line has needs; believes Jake Brendel ‘played at a high level’

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan spoke about the offensive line and the depth chart at the owner’s meetings on Tuesday

The San Francisco 49ers' depth chart along the offensive line has a hole at left guard. Last season, Spencer Burford was Wally Pipp’d by Dominick Puni at right guard. Burford lost his spot after suffering an injury early on in the preseason and never regained his spot.

Burford wound up playing Week 1 against the New York Jets, but that was at left guard once Aaron Banks went down with an injury. Burford could be a valuable depth piece for the...

Dee Winters has an opportunity to make a name for himself playing next to Fred Warner. But staying healthy for a full season must come first

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan gave rave reviews about now Denver Broncos linebacker Dre Greenlaw. He told reporters that Denver is getting “a hell of a player” and a “good person” who was one of Shanahan’s favorite players during his time with the 49ers.

Now, the Niners are tasked with replacing Greenlaw, who was as impactful a linebacker in the NFL as it gets when Dre was on the field. Shanahan was...

We look at three potential kickers the 49ers could sign, and layout Kyle Shanahan’s comments about the decision to add a veteran kicker and what that means for a Jake Moody competition this summer

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was talking about his team's depth Tuesday morning and where there will be competition. Left guard came up. Shanahan said losing Aaron Banks will be challenging, but Nick Zakelj, Ben Bartch, and Matt Hennessey will all compete to replace Banks.

Kyle Shanahan explains the importance of signing Luke Farrell and how he impacts George Kittle

More Farrell as a blocker could mean more Kittle as a receiver for the 49ers, who could be without Brandon Aiyuk for the start of the season.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke at the owner’s meetings on Tuesday morning, and talked about the importance of having a No. 2 tight end behind George Kittle. Shanahan believes George Kittle’s new backup is one of the best blockers in the NFL:

“We really needed a No. 2 blocking tight end. Losing Charlie [Woerner], we haven’t been able to replace him yet. I thought Eric [Saubert] came in and did...

Lynch: 49ers like their current OL, but will ‘certainly’ look to add in the draft

The Niners have a few questions surrounding their offensive line heading into the draft.

It’s been an unorthodox offseason for the San Francisco 49ers, who have chosen to lay back and be quiet in free agency after making splashes in previous offseasons at key positions.

As a result, there are several questions surrounding the team’s roster heading into the 2025 NFL Draft as the 49ers look to retool around their core players on both sides of the ball.

One position that has consistently fielded questions during the Kyle Shanahan era has been the offensive line, as San Francisco has looked...

49ers’ John Lynch still optimistic about finalizing a Brock Purdy extension soon (paywall)

“Of course, Lynch also suggested the deal might not get done at all this year. Purdy still has one more season left on his very affordable rookie contract, which appears to be something the team is using as leverage in negotiations.

“Brock wants to be with us,” Lynch said. “We want Brock to be with us. When that’s the case, these things typically get done. And does it happen this offseason? I don’t know....

One trade down proposal the 49ers might consider in the upcoming NFL Draft

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell did a whacky mock draft where the 49ers trade down and add a player from the Dolphins.

The San Francisco 49ers told us they have a dire need at defensive tackle when they released both starters this offseason. Because of that, now the entire NFL knows.

That doesn’t mean the Niners are picking a defensive tackle at No. 11 overall in the upcoming NFL Draft. Still, seeing other teams maneuver around San Francisco, knowing the positions they’re eyeing wouldn't be surprising.

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell conducts an out-of-the-box mock draft annually that involves every team making a trade...

The NFL annual meeting is underway in Florida, and the NFL brasses are well represented. John Lynch spoke to reporters today and shared an update on Brandon Aiyuk amidst constant trade rumors surrounding the star wide receiver.

The 49ers signed Aiyuk at the last moment to a four-year, 120 million contract right before the 2024 season opener against the New York Jets. After an up-and-down 2024 season, Aiyuk suffered a devastating knee injury against the Kansas City Chiefs, which ended his season. The injury was...

Report: The 49ers could see Dre Greenlaw and Talanoa Hufanga in joint practices this summer

The Athletic’s Matt Barrows tweeted that the 49ers are working on holding a joint practice with the Denver Broncos this summer

Last summer, the San Francisco 49ers were set to hold planned joint practices with the New Orleans Saints ahead of their preseason matchup. It would have come at the perfect time, too. The practices would’ve taken place on August 15 and 16, usually around a week and a half after the Niners put on their pads.

By then, you’re sick of repeatedly going against the same person and are ready to hit somebody in a different colored jersey.

Unfortunately,...

The San Francisco 49ers are known for some infamous draft picks under general manager John Lynch. Passing on a certain quarterback in the 2017 NFL Draft will be impossible to live down. Trading up for another one in 2021 without a plan for that player looks worse as the years go by.

Still, we’re talking about a team that has been to the Super Bowl with Lynch and Kyle Shanahan calling...
