Behind the Steel Curtain Behind the Steel Curtain

Hard-hitting journalism, folks.

The Pittsburgh Steelers hold the No. 20 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, with Round 1 kicking off Thursday, April 25 at 8 p.m. ET from Detroit, Michigan.

Though pick times will vary from team to team, we’ve taken a look at what time the 20th overall pick has been announced over the past five years to get an idea of what time the Steelers could be on the clock, should you not be looking to tune into the full night of chaos about to ensue.

What time will the Steelers pick in the 2024 NFL Draft?

Round 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft starts at 8 p.m. ET, with each team allotted 10 minutes per pick. That means, from start to finish, the first round could presumably last as long as 320 minutes, or just over five hours and 20 minutes, should each team take up their full allotment of time. That doesn’t happen, though; the draft usually lasts somewhere around four hours.

In this very scientific study, we’ve documented the timestamp of the last five No. 20 overall pick announcements on Twitter/X from various resources, including NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, B/R Gridiron and others. Here’s what we found:

Taking the average of those times, we have the Steelers making their selection somewhere in the neighborhood of 10:31 p.m. ET. However, you can’t rule out a potential trade (up or down) that would derail the results of this incredibly informative study, so tune in at that time at your own risk!

Sidenote — is the 20th overall pick cursed? There’s only one player selected with pick No. 20 over the past five years who is still with his current team, and that is 2023 selection WR Jaxon Smith-Njiba with the Seattle Seahawks. Woof.
