Per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Tom is more likely to be Green Bay’s long-term center than Josh Myers.

ESPN’s Green Bay Packers beat reporter Rob Demovsky dropped a bombshell on Friday’s episode of Wilde & Tausch. According to Demovsky, he believes that the Packers’ long-term starting center is already on the roster, but that it’s not Josh Myers, the former second-round pick who is in the final year of his rookie contract. Instead, it’s Zach Tom, who spent the 2023 season starting as the team’s right tackle. As a reminder, Tom has played all five offensive line positions during his NFL career, snapped for the Packers in the 2023 preseason and Week 7 versus the Broncos.

Here’s what Demovsky had to say on the subject:

“I was told by a couple people, within the organization, they think Zach Tom is a Pro Bowl right tackle, an All-Pro guard and a potential Hall of Fame center.”

That’s interesting information to pass along a couple of weeks ahead of the draft, as offensive tackle is a position that is strong in the range that the Packers will be drafting in the first round (25th overall). It’s worth noting that Green Bay has reportedly brought in three offensive linemen for pre-draft visits. Two of them are considered potential first-round picks, Georgia’s Amarius Mims and Oklahoma’s Tyler Guyton, and they are both true right tackle prospects. None of the three offensive linemen are centers, despite the only returning starter on the team with an expiring contract being Myers.

So if you were on the fence about the Packers considering a potential tackle prospect at the top of the draft, the fact that Green Bay is seemingly considering Tom as their future at center probably should put you over the edge. If the Packers are in the right tackle market, the top prospects at the position in this class are Oregon State’s Taliese Fuaga, Alabama’s JC Latham, BYU’s Kingsley Suamataia, Mims and Guyton, all players who are expected to come off the board in the top 40 picks of this month’s draft.

Based on the Packers’ historical trends at the position, it’s also highly likely that they look at the likes of Kansas State’s Cooper Beebe, Notre Dame’s Blake Fisher, Washington’s Roger Rosengarten, Wisconsin’s Tanor Bortolini and TCU’s Brandon Coleman outside of the top 40 picks, assuming they want to hit on the right tackle position. If Green Bay doesn’t turn in the 25th pick on a right tackle, those are names to underline, highlight and bold on Day 2 and Day 3 of the draft.
