Report: Eagles have started talking to A.J. Brown’s agent about contract extension

Rumors that the Eagles would be willing to trade WR A.J. Brown seem unfounded.

Howie Roseman has mastered the art of the win-win contract over the years, and after re-signing guys like DeVonta Smith, Landon Dickerson, and Jordan Mailata, the Eagles GM has turned his attention on an extension for A.J. Brown, per reports. Howard Eskin said that preliminary discussions between the team and WR are underway.

“I have heard different things. Whether it’s preliminary discussions, they are thinking about a new contract for A.J. Brown, not trading A.J. Brown. They're thinking about an extension for A.J. Brown. Again, this is what I’ve heard from different teams, that they’re thinking — and they’ve already started some conversations with A.J. Brown’s agent.”

Even without the Brown extension, the Eagles have nine offensive players already secured for the next two years. Keeping a group this talented together for the long term is good roster management, and extending guys to spread out the salary cap in more favorable ways, is Roseman’s specialty.

Getting an extension done with Brown before the WR market skyrockets also shows a lot of forethought on the future of the roster and team. Roseman tends to make magic happen, and locking up the best receiver in the league would be another great offseason move for the Eagles.
