Report: Broncos quietly did a lot of work on quarterback Bo Nix
Mile High Report Mile High Report

Reportedly, the Broncos quietly did a lot of work on Oregon quarterback Bo Nix during the pre-draft process.

According to NFL insider Albert Breer, the Denver Broncos quietly did a lot of work on Oregon quarterback Bo Nix during the pre-draft process. He states that they had an hour-long zoom session with him in early March and then Sean Payton and a contingent of Broncos coaches and scouts had a private workout with him a few weeks later.

The Broncos also held a private workout with J.J. McCarthy, met with Jayden Daniels, attended Drake Maye’s pro day, and had Michael Penix Jr. in for a top 30 visit. So, the Broncos doing this with Nix is not surprising considering they have done their homework on the rest of the top quarterback prospects. With that said, it is always noteworthy, especially with Nix being the quarterback routinely connected to the Broncos throughout this draft process.

Nix is connected to the Broncos a lot because of his skill set, being a good fit in Sean Payton’s offense, and the fact he keeps getting Drew Brees comparisons. So it makes sense why people keep making the connection and as Breer notes, they are interested in Nix.

Most analysts have a late first or early second-round grade on Nix which makes things tricky for the Broncos. They could take him at 12th overall but that might be too rich for him and they could decide to trade back and hope he falls to them. Right now, the current rumor is that the Broncos are in talks with the Eagles and Steelers about a potential trade-down scenario. If they do that, they can fall about 10 or 12 spots, acquire extra draft capital, and still select Nix. The risk here is someone selecting Nix before you pick or someone jumping you knowing that you’re selecting him.

As I said earlier, Nix is not the only quarterback the Broncos have done a lot of work on. They have long been connected to Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy and earlier today, Peyton Manning said that the Broncos are “very interested” in J.J. McCarthy. They had a private workout with him and like Nix, he would fit Payton’s offense well too. While there are reports that the Broncos are talking with teams about trading back, there are also reports/rumors/whispers that they are trying to move up for a quarterback as well. If they do, all signs point to that quarterback being J.J. McCarthy.

We are less than 48 hours away from the Broncos making their long-awaited pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The question is, will they trade up or back and which quarterback do they come away with?

It’s going to be a wild few days Broncos Country so buckle up.
