The Las Vegas Raiders used their second pick of Day Two on Maryland tackle Delmar Glaze at No. 77 in the third round.
Unless they trade back into the end of the third round, the Raiders are done until Saturday when they have five picks, starting at No. 112 in the fourth round. The draft starts at 9 a.m. PT.
Here are some thoughts:
Not the BAP:
Raiders’ first-year general manager Tom Telesco went away from his early-round formula by taking the best available players in the form of Georgia tight end Brock Bowers at No. 13 and Oregon guard Jackson Powers-Johnson at No. 44. Both of those players were expected to go higher. Glaze wasn’t as highly rated. But there was a run on tackles, so the Raiders drafted for need.
Offense, offense, offense:
Telesco wasn’t kidding when he said the Raiders’ needed help on offense. It’s been three-for-three so far.
Project:
Glaze seems like he is a developmental player. He has good feet, but he needs to work on his overall game and strength. He has 32 starts at tackle. But still, he looks like he will need to be developed on the pro level.
Backup for now:
Some draft experts think he projects as a guard, but the Raiders announced him as a tackle and that’s likely where he will start. It’s may be a stretch to think he will compete with Thayer Munford at right tackle immediately.
No QB:
Another pick, and no quarterback. The Raiders may take one on Day three, but again, this is another sign Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell will be competing for the job.
Remaining needs:
At No. 112, a quarterback is possible. I wouldn’t be surprised, though, if the Raiders target a cornerback at some point soon.
