Immediate Reaction: Saints select CB Kool-Aid McKinstry

First thoughts on the Saints 2nd round pick.

The New Orleans Saints added depth to their defensive back room at pick no. 45 in the second round, selecting Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry.

The run-on wide receivers and defensive tackles came early in round two. The Saints took the opportunity to move up and grab a player of great value in Kool-Aid McKinstry. The 1st Team AP-All American cornerback was widely considered a top-25 player in this draft among many. McKinstry is an explosive, quick twitch athlete who isn’t afraid to get physical against opposing receivers. He is also an exceptionally smart football player on the field, diagnosing route concepts and rarely being out of position. A really solid selection overall for the Saints.

With the team now having a ton of depth at the cornerback position, we have to wonder what they might do with Marshon Lattimore or Paulson Adebo after (possibly before) this season. Lattimore contract restructure still stands which keeps the possibility open for a trade. On the other hand, Paulson Adebo is entering a contract year and the Saints have yet to extend him. Could the selection of McKinstry potentially send someone elsewhere? We’ll just have to see.
