A little over a week from the NFL draft, the Browns corner isn’t concerned about rumors

The NFL draft is just around the corner with the first night kicking off next week and the final stanza coming to a close on Saturday. For the Cleveland Browns, barring a huge trade-up, only two days of the event matter without a first-round pick to use on Thursday.

There haven’t been rumors of the Browns wanting to trade back into the first round but there were rumors those offseason that a cornerback, likely Greg Newsome II, was available in a trade. The rumors make sense with Newsome having his fifth-year option for 2025 left on his contract and Cleveland having Denzel Ward and Martin Emerson at the position as well.

With Ward already well paid and Emerson set to hit free agency after 2025, like Newsome, GM Andrew Berry could trade for an area of strength to fortify the roster in other places. Ward said he spoke to Berry about keeping the trio together then Newsome addressed the rumors himself:

At the NFL Combine, DBN reported that at least two NFC teams checked in on trading for Newsome. One, the Detroit Lions, ended up trading a third-round pick for Carlton Davis III at the start of NFL free agency.

The NFL draft is a place where big deals could happen including another rumor in the AFC North. Trades will continue to happen more often as draft picks continue to lose value.
