Broncos Country will have to trust in Sean Payton on Draft night
Mile High Report Mile High Report

Only Sean Payton knows what will happen at the draft, and that’s just fine.

It takes arrogance to be an NFL head coach. Sean Payton has that in spades for the Denver Broncos.

It’s that arrogance that will allow Payton to fully believe in whoever the Broncos choose to be their QB in 2024. Whether they trade up in the draft, or back, or stand pat, Sean Payton will come away from the first round believing he did exactly what he needed to do to make the Broncos a contender.

When Ian and I discussed the possibilities for the Broncos in the 2024 NFL Draft we knew the possibilities were endless. There are limits to what they can do, but if Payton loves JJ McCarthy, he will do what it takes to draft him. If he thinks he can build around Bo Nix or Michael Penix, Jr. he will do what it takes to get either of them.

If Sean Payton sees Spencer Rattler as the guy, he will make the necessary moves to be in position to draft him. The bottom line is that Payton has the belief in his own abilities as a coach and play caller that he can take any player and make him better.

As a QB guru Payton turned Drew Brees into a Hall of Fame QB. Even Russell Wilson had a better year with Payton as his coach.

So when the draft is done, and the Broncos start to move forward, whether it’s with a new QB from the draft, or Zach Wilson under center, or Jarrett Stidham taking the snaps, Sean Payton will believe his team is good enough to win every week.
