First-round pick makes to Raiders’ facility

Las Vegas Raiders’ first-round pick Brock Bowers met media at the team’s Henderson facility on Friday afternoon.

Here are some highlights of his media session:

On what the past day has been like?

“It’s been pretty crazy. I feel like it hasn’t all soaked in yet, just because last night was a lot of emotions and stuff, and then I went to sleep and got up early and caught a flight out here. So, I mean, it’s exciting to see where I’m going to be at for the next couple years, and hopefully, it’s a good place.”

On if he’s talked Georgia teammates Zamir White and Chris Smith after being drafted?

“I haven’t yet, I was going to hit them up. But yeah, it felt like a long night last night just waiting around. I had a bunch of texts, so I’m looking forward to seeing them again and reconnecting with them.”

Has being an NFL player always been on his mind?

“Man, I mean, football has always kind of been in the back of my mind. I remember watching NFL games on Sunday, Monday, and playing catch in the living room just watching games and being like, ‘Man, I want to be there one day.’ And I think it all got kind of real after my freshman year in college and I was like, ‘Man, I have a shot at this, to go do it and live out my dream.’”

On his reputation as a student of the game and as a film junkie.

“Yeah, I think that had to do with a little bit of the coaching influence. I mean, they say, ‘If you want to be great, you have to watch film and study your opponent.’ And I mean, you just have to want to do it, but that’s noticing game situation, being prepared for the game. I mean, you have to do what you have to do.”

On the tight ends he studies.

“Yeah, I like watching a bit of NFL tape, getting to know what those guys do. I mean, Mark Andrews, [Travis] Kelce, [George] Kittle, all those guys, they’re fun to watch.”

On helping bring a winning culture to the Raiders.

“Yeah, I think the culture at Georgia was really good. I mean, we had a winning standard, and the standard was everything there, so I mean I’m excited to see what we’ve got going on here and just get after it.”

On sharing the tight end room with Michael Mayer?

Bowers: “I’m excited to get to work with him. And I mean, hopefully he can teach me a thing or two. I remember watching him in college and at the next level, so I’m excited to see what happens and meet with all the guys.”
