Behind the scenes: Patriots draft Drake Maye in the first round
Pats Pulpit Pats Pulpit

The New England Patriots had their highest draft pick in three decades, and a full house as they were investing it. Their new-look war room, led by director of scouting Eliot Wolf, was filled to the brim — including a camera crew to capture the action.

The behind-the-scenes video shared on the Patriots’ social media channels on Thursday night captured the moment the team selected North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye with the third overall selection in the first round. You see college scouting director Camren Williams calling Maye, as well as Wolf, head coach Jerod Mayo, and team owner Robert Kraft addressing him on the phone.

Besides those key figures in the organization, several assistant coaches and scouts were also present for the action — a change of procedure from the Bill Belichick era. Under the previous regime, which looked a lot like this one only with Belichick at the top, the draft room was one of the smallest in the league.
