Contracts not signed yet but agreements in place. Deals should be finalized soon.
Hired by New England as a coaching assistant in 2017, Covington saw his role elevate to linebackers coach in 2019 before taking over defensive line duties in 2020. He held the role through 2023 where his strong work led to him taking interviews with the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Chargers for their vacant defensive coordinator positions.
Covington eventually was promoted to defensive play caller under head coach Jerod Mayo last season. In his first season in the role, the Patriots defense struggled finishing the year 30th in DVOA and 22nd in points per game (24.5) — down from ninth and 14th, respectively, in 2023.
Prior to landing in Green Bay, Covington interviewed with the Cincinnati Bengals earlier this offseason for their defensive coordinator position.
On Mike Vrabel’s New England staff, former defensive line coach Terrell Williams will take over as defensive coordinator. No other positional coach from last season will return.
