On Monday afternoon, the Chicago Bears announced that they had signed the following nine players to 2025 reserve/future contracts:
- Ricky Stromberg, OL
- Theo Benedet, OL
- Chris Glaser, OL
- John Jackson, WR
- Samori Toure, WR
- Joel Wilson, TE
- Austin Reed, QB
- Carl Jones, LB
- Jamree Kromah, DL
- Jordan Murray, TE
All nine of these players ended the season on Chicago’s practice squad.
UPDATE: On Tuesday, the Bears signed 27-year-old tight end Jordan Murray, who was last on the Giants practice squad, to reserve/future contract.
Four other players who ended the season on the Bears practice squad have yet to ink reserve/future deals: linebacker Micah Baskerville, defensive lineman Dashaun Mallory, cornerback Reddy Steward, and safety JT Woods.
Reserve/future contracts are a way for teams to get a head start on constructing their 90-man offseason rosters. Unlike practice squad deals, these contracts prevent the player from negotiating with other clubs. NFL teams can sign as many reserve/future players as they want as long as the total contracted players does not exceed 90. The players don’t count towards the current 53-man roster or the salary cap, and once the 2025 league year starts, they’ll revert to the 90-man offseason roster.
Also, on Monday, the Bears cut practice squad running back Royce Freeman.
