Acme Packing Company
Jordan Love hits an inflection point this season. As of this year, he’ll have been the Packers’ starter for longer than he was an understudy to Aaron Rodgers, signifying…something. I’m not exactly sure what. The passage of time, maybe? The inevitable march of one day after another after another toward oblivion?
Maybe that’s a bit too much. But we’re certainly at a crossroads for Love. We can no longer offer up any kind of excuse for Love’s play as being tied to age or inexperience. He’s turning 28 in November. He’s started 48 regular season games and four playoff games. He’s been around!
Not that there’s much to excuse, mind you. Love has been increasingly efficient and productive. His numbers stack up well against anyone, especially if you account for the Packers’ absolutely glacial pace of play.
But still, it’s hard to shake the feeling, for me at least, that Love is at a turning point of sorts. What will Year 4 of the Love Era bring? What growth will we see? What bad habits will still be around?
With contract extensions for Christian Watson and Jayden Reed on the books and Matthew Golden looking impressive in offseason work so far, the table is set for whatever Love can offer. And with the Packers decidedly in a championship window, now’s the time to bring his very best.
